Exam… Exam… Exam…

In the midst of studying for my upcoming exams this thursday and friday, I remembered that I still have this site. I really thought that this blog of mine will fit in my regular schedule. Guess not.

But anyway, let me give you a glimpse of what is there in med school… Is it really a social life – killing machine? Is med school really that hard? Well, here’s what I’ve seen so far.

1. Med school won’t shatter your social life. In fact, I average partying past 12mn 4-10 times a month. The only catch is that your social life is your classmates, coz they are the only ones free after exams. :)

2. Exams are really difficult. But they are not really 10x more difficult than undergrads exams… Maybe 1.5 times… :P

3. There are plenty of different kinds of people you’ll meet in med school. Some are nice, but most of them are not. Never depend on first impressions. Some people I met are nice during the first month, and turned out to be “crab mentalist” in the next.

4. Because there’s just too many of you, don’t be shy to approach people and ask them what their names are – over and over again. Don’t get offended also if one of your classmates, despite after 3 introductions, still doesn’t remember your name.

5. Be nice, but don’t be too nice. Don’t be deceived by their angelic faces. Always check their backs for long sharp pointed tails… :)

That would be all for now… See you next month… Kidding… I’ll try to update this blog more often…

PS: I’m on the verge of blogging Globe Telecom again… I’ll wait for another week or two…

The Most Stupid Teacher in the Whole Wide World

One of the reasons why I haven’t posted anything for almost a month here is because I’m taking a review program here for the upcoming NMAT (National Medical Admission Test). Yup! I’m about to enter the world of medical school in the next few months. But what I really wanted to share to all of you is the incident that happened during one of my review classes. The topic of that day was Mathematics. It was actually an easy math. But my day was completely ruined during the afternoon session. I forgot the name of the teacher (actually, I never bothered looking for her name). Anyway, she’s from that school where I took the NMAT review. My classmates and I were suppose to have NMAT review in our own school, but no one offered so we took one from another school. I will not name the school, but it starts with the letter W here in Iloilo, Philippines. As I was saying, that afternoon, my day was completely hell-like. There was one problem in the math review that became pretty controversial. It was actually a very easy question, but the stupid instructor insisted that the answer is “cannot be determine”. I actually went to the board to show her that there’s an answer. Here’s the problem: “A driver covered 480 km in 8 hours. Before noon he averaged 80 kmph, but after noon he averaged only 40 kmph. At what time did he leave?”

According to that stupid teacher, it can’t be determine because the time the driver arrived is not a given. First of all, if the time of the driver’s arrival was one of the given, the speed of the driver nor the distance he travelled is useless. You will only need to substract 8 hours from the time arrival to get the answer! MORON! To get the answer, here’s the solution: Solution:

let x= time travelled before noon
8-x= time travelled after noon
given: v1= 80 km/h —> AVERAGE speed before noon
v2= 40 km/h —> AVERAGE speed after noon

WORKING EQUATION!!!

v1 (x) + v2 (8-x) = 480 km

80 (x) + 40 (8 – x) = 480
80 (x) + 320 – 40 (x) = 480
80 (x) – 40 (x) = 480  – 320

40 km/h (x) = 160
x = 4

from: 8-x
8-4=4

12-4 = 8:00 AM
12+4 = 4:00 AM

Unfortunately, that so called math teacher of “W…” school doesn’t know how to get the answer. So automatically, since her mini version brain can’t process it, the answer is “cannot be determine”.

My point in posting this is to tell future NMAT takers that if they’re planning to take NMAT review from this school here in Iloilo, THINK AGAIN!
