SHAKEYS… THE SLOWEST SERVING RESTAURANT IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD

I actually almost forgot about that incident that happened on the same week James Bond Quantum of Solace premiered. My dad wanted to watch the film coz he’s a big fan of James Bond films since child. Since, I really have nothing to do that day, I decided to tag along. Before we watched the film, we decided that we’ll eat first. I asked him where he wanted to eat, he was slightly hesitant, but later said that he wanted to eat in Shakeys. So I agreed, although I told him that they serve pretty slow there. When we got to the restaurant, we immediately ordered for two bunch of lunch meals (fried chicken, garlic bread, spaghetti, potatoes and a slice of pizza), 2 coke and a pizza take out that I will bring inside the theatre. After 25 mins, no order came aside from the coke. I called the waiter and asked him to check if our order is ready coz it’s taking too long. The waiter went to the bar and asked the crew on the other side. He later came to me and told me that in 5 mins, the order will be in for they’re still cooking the chicken. 5 mins passed and still no food came. I again asked another waiter where’s our food. Then, after three minutes or so, the food came. Unfortunately, the fried chicken is nowhere to be found. The waiter informed me that the chicken is still not cooked yet. I was starting to get furious already since the 5 mins that he said awhile ago has passed already 10 mins ago. I did not accept the food. Rather, I told him that he should serve it together with the chicken. I again asked him how long will the chicken be cooked. He said that 3 mins more. Then we waited for another 3 mins. 3 mins passed, no meal came. 5 mins more passed, still no chicken in our plate. Then, two new customers came which happened to order the same meals with us. I was shocked when they immediately gave them their meals- complete WITH THE FRIED CHICKEN! I was really burning with anger during that time, since not only I was hungry, but also we are going to watch a film. I was very irritated with this. I called a waiter and complained how come our food is still not served while the new customers who just arrived are already eating their meals. The waiter went to the bar again to ask why our orders are still not served. After 2 mins of waiting, my anger exploded, and I hurriedly went to their manager and throw 100 peso bill right in front of her. I told her that this is THE SLOWEST SERVING RESTAURANT IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD! I walked out of the restaurant and went to to Pizza Hut instead. After ordering, 5 minutes later, we are already enjoying our meals.

After that incident, I promised to never eat anything coming from Shakeys. Before, I often treat my friends in that restaurant coz I love the food. BUT NOT ANYMORE! NEVER AGAIN!

SM CITY ILOILO SHAKEYS – must avoid at all cost!

American Idol Season 8

American Idol is probably the most popular show in the whole wide world… Even all the way here in the pacific, people are watching it.

So I have read a couple of spoilers this year… AND…. There is another Filipino that will try to penetrate this year’s American Idol… i think…. According to some spoilers I read, they will return to the old way… They will again have top 36 just like in season 3 where another Filipino, Jasmine Trias,  almost grabbed the crown. Well for this season, she’s the only Asian who’s in! Better cross your fingers then…

Let me present….

JENNIFER SAMORANOS (JENISIS)

I’m actually not sure if she’s a Filipino. I’m only guessing here… Based on the following:

1. her last name is very Filipino

2. she has a picture in her myspace with Manny Pacquiao!

3. saw that one of her gigs was produced or supported by MYX

4. a guy in youtube said that she is a Filipino indeed…

5. she appeared in the MTV of Black Eyed Peas “Bebot” (only Fil-Ams appeared in it)

Jenisis on FOX News

Jenisis singing Better In Time by Leona Lewis

Jenisis singing I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston

So, whatcha think? will she make it and become the first Filipino American Idol? Let’s hope…

BTW, most of you probably know that there is another judge for this season to even the sex… Kara DioGuardi…

MMFF 2008 AWARDS NIGHT RESULT

Well, well, well… I was right with some… Like Anne winning best actress… FYI, I haven’t seen the film yet. But that was the only material that requires “real” acting aside from Magkaibigan… But honestly I was hoping more for Aiai to win… It’s a lot more difficult to make people laugh than make them sympathize to you…

Desperadas 2

On the first day of MMFF, my sister and I decided to watch 3 movies in a row- Desperadas 2, Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat and Iskul Bukol. Unfortunately Due to overcrowding and long queues in the cinema, we were only able to watch Desperadas 2.

The film was overall BETTER than the first movie. Ogie Alcasid definitely hightened the story to a level worthy to stand side-by-side Vic Sotto and Aiai Delas Alas. It was a none-dull moment movie. All of the actress did pretty well in this film including Rufa Guttierez and Marian Rivera. I think this is really Marian’s strength in acting. She knows how to deliver comic lines at the right time. Rufa did not really had to do much in this film since the character was really seemed to be made for her ONLY.Even the boys in this film, Wendell Ramos, Jay-R and Will Devaughn were very effective.

There’s nothing really much bad in this film. I can’t even think of one. So Just go watch it. Don’t want to tell you the story but it’s definitely a good film. 8/10

I’m Back! MMFF season

Wow! It’s been a long time since my last post… Sorry folks… I took NMAT last december 14… I was also very busy with my curricular activities… But anyway, I’m back and I have a lot to tell… Let’s go retrospective from the recent one…

This month is again another Metro Manila Film Festival month… There are plenty of good films to watch this season… Each has a unique storyline… To make a short intro about them (this is based on their trailers). First one, Baler… It’s a love story that happened during warring periods here in the Philippines. From what I have seen in their trailers, it seems that this film has a great chance of winning this year’s best film if and only if gross income will not be part of the criteria (which is the case for the past two or so years)…  Another film is entitled Dayo… This is the first animated film to enter the history of the festival… But this is not the first full-blown Filipino Animated Film. From what I read, it’s about folklores here in the Philippines with a twist… Like they made the mananaggal (a vampire like, but with wings and no feet) a friendly one. Another film in this year is Desparadas 2: All They Need is More Love. Well, the plot basically is about the sister’s long lost sibling (which happens to be another sister). This new sister of theirs is a princess of a certain island, I can’t remember the name… Another film is the return of Aiai delas Alas and Eugene Domingo tandem, Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat…  The plot puts the lead character, played by Aiai, as the new president of the Philippines. The first film was good. So I’m expecting BIG from this. Vic Sotto has another entry for this year’s MMFF… Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), it is not another sequel of Enteng Kabisote. This time, the reunion of the old classmates in Iskul Bukol will be seen in the silver screen. There are so many stars in this movie aside from Vic… Among them are Sharon Cuneta, Joey De Leon and Tito Sotto. This film is one of the expected high-grossing film this season alongside Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat and Desperadas 2. An entry by OctoArts is casted by Kapamilya and Kapuso Stars. Katrina Halili, Diana Zubiri and Jennylyn Mercado from GMA 7 and Alexandra de Rossi and another artists from ABS-CBN (sorry can’t remember his name… But I know it has something to do with chocolate) are among them. The film is entitled One Night Only. The story revolves at a certain motel where people do all their crazy sexcapades… It is a comedy film… Don’t really know much about this film. Then there’s Magakaibigan. This is said to be based from a true story (from Rudy Fernandez). It’s about friendship in time of problem (one of them was diagnosed of cancer). This one will probably give another acting award to Jinggoy Estrada. This has a great chance of winning this year’s best film also if gross income is not part of the criteria. Lastly, but definitely not the least, probably the most-number-of-sequels-ever-made Filipino Film, Shake Rattle N Roll. This is the only horror/suspense in the festival. I saw the trailers but wasn’t really that happy with the plot of all 3 stories. I think it’s a scary movie for kids.

So here are my predictions:

Best Film will either be (in order of what I think will most likely be):

Iskul Bukol

Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat

Desperadas 2

Best Actor:

Jinngoy Estrada (I don’t think Jericho Rosales has much fight against him)

Ogie Alacasid

Best Actress:

Aiai Delas Alas

Dawn Zulueta

Anne Curtis

Best Supporting Actress:

Maricel

Eugene Domingo

Gross of Film after 1 week

1. Iskul Bukol

2-3. Desperadas 2/ Shake Rattle N Roll

4. Tanging Ina Niyong Lahat

5. One Night Only

6-8. Baler/Magkaibigan/Dayo

Possible Controversies:

1. Ogie Alcasid winning Best Actor beating Jinggoy and Boyet

2. Star Cinema complaining why Iskul Bukol won best picture

3. Anne winning Best Actress

The Most Stupid Teacher in the Whole Wide World

One of the reasons why I haven’t posted anything for almost a month here is because I’m taking a review program here for the upcoming NMAT (National Medical Admission Test). Yup! I’m about to enter the world of medical school in the next few months. But what I really wanted to share to all of you is the incident that happened during one of my review classes. The topic of that day was Mathematics. It was actually an easy math. But my day was completely ruined during the afternoon session. I forgot the name of the teacher (actually, I never bothered looking for her name). Anyway, she’s from that school where I took the NMAT review. My classmates and I were suppose to have NMAT review in our own school, but no one offered so we took one from another school. I will not name the school, but it starts with the letter W here in Iloilo, Philippines. As I was saying, that afternoon, my day was completely hell-like. There was one problem in the math review that became pretty controversial. It was actually a very easy question, but the stupid instructor insisted that the answer is “cannot be determine”. I actually went to the board to show her that there’s an answer. Here’s the problem: “A driver covered 480 km in 8 hours. Before noon he averaged 80 kmph, but after noon he averaged only 40 kmph. At what time did he leave?”

According to that stupid teacher, it can’t be determine because the time the driver arrived is not a given. First of all, if the time of the driver’s arrival was one of the given, the speed of the driver nor the distance he travelled is useless. You will only need to substract 8 hours from the time arrival to get the answer! MORON! To get the answer, here’s the solution: Solution:

let x= time travelled before noon
8-x= time travelled after noon
given: v1= 80 km/h —> AVERAGE speed before noon
v2= 40 km/h —> AVERAGE speed after noon

WORKING EQUATION!!!

v1 (x) + v2 (8-x) = 480 km

80 (x) + 40 (8 – x) = 480
80 (x) + 320 – 40 (x) = 480
80 (x) – 40 (x) = 480  – 320

40 km/h (x) = 160
x = 4

from: 8-x
8-4=4

12-4 = 8:00 AM
12+4 = 4:00 AM

Unfortunately, that so called math teacher of “W…” school doesn’t know how to get the answer. So automatically, since her mini version brain can’t process it, the answer is “cannot be determine”.

My point in posting this is to tell future NMAT takers that if they’re planning to take NMAT review from this school here in Iloilo, THINK AGAIN!

Mag-ingat Ka Sa Kulam – Movie Review

This film is very much anticipated for three reasons: 1) the movie is made by Regal Films – a film company that gave us the best Filipino films for the past few years; 2) the cast is very porwerful (Judy Ann Santos – best actress and Dennis Trillo – best actor); 3) and three, the movie was made almost a year. So with these ingredients, one will probably expect a quality horror film… NOT!

The movie opened with Mira (Judy Ann) driving a car, and having a road accident. Because of this, she will have amnesia. The movie starts its conflict when Mira was dreaming walking in the hospital alley, and seeing blood all over the walls. She then wakes up. The next scene, they returned home from the hospital. Before she entered their house, she saw an old lady looking at her from afar (inside the house). Then, the movie builds its conflict when Mira’s business partner went to their house. He and Mira had a private conversation. In that conversation, he said that they were suppose to elope but she never came. Surprisingly, this business partner of her is also her lover. But Mira can’t remember anything.

The next scene was the “scare scenes”.Blah blah blah…

Dennis suggested to her that she goes to see a doctor coz what she has been seeing (ghost) is probably caused by her accident. In the hospital, Mira’s lover came from out of nowhere, and told her that she has a twin sister, Maria. He then left the premises telling Mira that if she wants to know her past, she will just have to call him.

When Mira and Dennis arrived at their house, she was very bothered with the information she just knew. In the middle of the night, while Dennis was asleep, she looked for the contact number of her lover.

They decided to meet, and her lover took her to the mental hospital where her sister was confined. She didn’t mention anything about her sister to Dennis because she loathed her sister. When they met with the doctor of her sister, she was informed that her sister died. The doctors have no one to inform so they decided to donate the body in one of the med schools. Because of this, Mira was furious. When they went outside the hospital, Dennis comes in the picture. He will think that Judy Ann is having an affair with her business partner. Dennis and her business partner will have a fist fight. Then Judy Ann and Dennis will leave. Mira explains to Dennis why he never told him about her sister. Interistingly, her mother was a witch (mangkukulam). She and her twin sister was being taught of the craft. Mira however was reluctant. She left their home and went to Manila leaving her sister. One day, her mother died. Her twin sister became crazy causing Mira to put her to the mental hospital.

The following day, Mira opened her sisters luggage bag which the doctor gave to her the day they went to the mental hospital. She then saw her sister’s wiccan book. After touching it, she remembered everything. The day before the accident, she went to visit her sister. Maria was very angry with her. She attacked Mira and pulled her hair. When Mira left, Maria performed a soul transfer ritual using Mira’s hair that she pulled. That was the cause of Mira’s accident. Maria’s soul was transferred to Mira and Mira’s soul to Maria’s body. Because Maria didn’t know how to drive, she had the car accident. Unfortunately, she suffered from amnesia.

After her memory returned, she became evil again. She wanted to kill Dennis and their daughter. Fortunately, before Mira went to see her sister, she left a video of herself telling Dennis how to vanquish her sister.

To make the story short, Dennis did what Mira said in the video. The END.

The movie was a little boring. I was able to predict what will be the twist (soul switching) in the story even before the first half ended. The scare scenes wasn’t scary at all. There was only one scene that was scary for me. The scene after Mira’s lover committed suicide, Dennis saw and old lady inside their house, looking at him, and laughing. That scene was a little freaky. Aside from that, the other scenes were a little dull. Kris Bernal and Mart Escudero were useless to the movie. Removing them would’ve made Regal saved more money. Kris and Mart were as important as the sofa in one of those scenes. Pathetic.

Overall, I was very disappointed. This film is only  2/10. If you’re planning to watch this film, you should consider it again. If you are looking for real horror movie, try something else.

Hypocrites and the Likes

Well, recently, I found a way how to actually see (and of course copy) the private photos of people in friendster. Even if you are not connected with that person, it is very easy to see their photos. Most people are actually making their profile private now. Unfortunately, this won’t protect you much.

So, as I was checking for the effectiveness of this method, I saw that it actually works almost 100%. It has some glitches, but I was able to modify the code to fix it. One time, I tried opening one of my classmates’ (well ex-classmate’s) private photos. I was able to view all of it. Unfortunately, there’s nothing interesting in it. In fact, my first reaction when I saw it was, “what’s so private with this?”… After viewing it, I informed her about it that I was able to access and view her private photos. Prior to this, I had already announced to everyone of them (my friends) that those who have “malicious” photos in their private photos must beware coz in a few days time, I’ll have access to them. After telling her that I was able to see all of her private photos, she became hysterical and gave me some sermons about privacy and blah blah… What’s funny about it though, after two weeks, she was actually the one who told her classmate to ask me hack the account of one of their enemies. PLEASE. What happened to the privacy thing she was talking about few days before? When I was looking at her private photos, it’s not ok, but if it’s other people’s private photos, it’s fine. HYPOCRITE. She even tells her classmates about me looking at her private photos, and saying how unethical it is. Then after two weeks, taraaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh… she tells her classmates to ask me to hack people’s account… She didn’t bother asking me herself coz I have not been talking to her for the past two weeks already. WHAT A BIG TIME HYPOCRITE YOU ARE… AT LEAST WHEN I DO EVIL THINGS, I ADMIT DOING IT. UNLIKE YOU. YOU KEEP SAYING DON’T DO THIS, DON’T DO THAT, BUT ACTUALLY YOU LIVE WITH THOSE “DON’T DO STUFF” EVERY DAY OF YOUR LIFE.

TV: House – Not Cancer (Season 5 Episode 2)

Finally! The medical side of House is back. Although the problem between Wilson and House is still there, the episode gave more emphasis on the patient (but of course not completely). The usual investigative approach of House like going to patient’s house or workplace and interviewing the relatives of the patient is still absent. But I like the fact that attention to the medical side was given. I didn’t know about CSC before, so it’s actually very enlightening to me. Though the show didn’t gave me much information about CSC, it gave way for me to check what CSCs are.

However, there are still downers. The downer back in season 4 is still there. The appearance of Cameron and Chase are always like one scene each. PAGING! GIVE MORE SCENES FOR CHASE AND CAMERON!!! The former always found inside the surgery room and the latter at the emergency room. Also, as I mentioned, the investigative approach (what I like most) is nowhere to be found.

But I like how the story is going. I Hope Wilson-House conflict would move to a higher problem. Hehe

But I like this episode better than the pilot episode of season 5. Out of 10, I say 7.5

Quote from this episode: “…only two things you ignore: things that aren’t important and the things you wish weren’t important…”

TV – House: Death Changes Everything (Season 5 Episode 1)

This episode is very much anticipated. I’ve been waiting for it for a couple of weeks (months even) already. The episode has some good points, but it has also downers. Let’s start with the good points. I like the fact that it ended pretty sadly. The story went exactly where I would’ve wanted it to go. I like the fact that House showed some vulnerability in there. I also like this episode because it’s full of strong lines. Example is what Wilson said to House (“We are not anymore friends House. I’m not even sure if we ever were.”) and what House said to Wilson (“Your friendship is more important than any patient”). Also, 13′s Huntington’s disease became a side conflict to the other characters. I think one of the future season’s finales will be her suffering/death. Before I watched season 4′s last episode, I thought the result of the Huntington’s test would be negative. Then, the conflict would be between 13-Chase-Cameron love story. I was wrong. Hehe.

Now for the downer. I actually really enjoyed watching House not because of the characters or the story of the characters, but rather because of the theme. I like the fact that it is very medical in nature unlike Grey’s Anatomy (apologies for the fans of Grey). Unfortunately, this episode lost it’s medical side. Although not completely, the conflict between the characters overshadowed the medical theme of the show. I hope it’ll only for the first few episodes coz I can understand that the conflict between House and Wilson must be given importance. But I really hope that the CSI-like approach would still remain.

On the scale of 1-10, 10 as the highest, I think it’s 6.5.
